After nearly a year and a half between full performances, the Chicks returned to play the Houston Rodeo- a yearly festival of all things country. Their show was mired by poor sound (there are constant sound drop-outs on the mike) and rustiness. The Chicks (especially Natalie) hardly move from their places on stage and Natalie even forgets a few of the lyrics on Goodbye Early. Natalie doesn't interact with the audience as much as usual and makes a few off-hand comments about her legal battles. The audience, fortunately, doesn't miss a beat and hardly seem to notice. Of particular highlight is the debut of Landslide, the Stevie Nicks tune (owing much to Natalie's new-found friendship no doubt), and a Bruce Robinson song about Vietnam that will appear on the new album. For Chicks fans, it wasn't the triumphant return everyone had hoped, but it was a return nonetheless, and I don't think anyone could hope for anymore.
The Chicks have
been much more prominent in the last few months with apperances on Family
Feud, Sesame, Street, Women Rock VH1 Special, Trading Spaces, and others
which is a good sign that the last of the Chicks legal troubles may be
finally behind them and they will finally be able to concentrate on the
music.
