What a difference a year makes: The Dixie chicks returned to ACL in 2000, once
again with Lloyd Maines accompanying. In addition to dedicating the full hour
to the Chicks, fans were treated to an interview segment at the end. This performance
includes a lovely acapella version of "That Lonesome Road", a James
Taylor cover.
An audience member somehow managed to smuggle in a DAT recorder during the show. Although the quality is terrible, it restores a bit of the concert "feel" to the listener, removing the heavy editing job ACL did on the show. In addition to a different track listing, the audience recording includes an alternate take of "Goodbye Earl" and "Give it Up or Let Me Go" and some general joking around (Natalie coaxes the audience into singing Happy Birthday to Emily and Emily tells a few jokes). The audience recording shows a more relaxed side of the Chicks who seem to favor "scripted" jokes and responses during their concerts.

Goodbye Earl Take Two | This is the version that made it on the TV show. You can hear Natalie say "Let's kill him again..." referring to the alternate take. |
